Numerous, veteran-laden ’Cats seek another district title
ORRICK – Varsity boys basketball coach Matt Brownsberger could have a deep bench this season.
As of Nov. 17, Orrick had a 15-man roster – up from 10, the total that finished 2019-20, when the Bearcats won the Class 1 District 13 title, Brownsberger said.
“We are always worried about the health of our athletes, obviously, but … if something happens or someone’s sick or something, … we have more numbers now for practice,” he said by phone. “So that’s been very good. That’s been refreshing. I think it’s been an adjustment because, last year, 10 guys got about every, single rep that we had.”
Brownsberger expects some of his 15-man crew to get junior varsity reps. Whether they will play four- or twoquarter games is uncertain. What is certain, though, is that the Bearcats will profit from having enough players for a JV team.
“Last year … we had guys that probably could’ve used some JV time – and with only having 10 guys, we just didn’t play any JV,” he said. “So that’s going to be…
