Veterans building reopens

RICHMOND – The veterans building, 312 Clark St., is open with limited hours.

The building – owned by American Legion Post 237 and rented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4398 – closed due to the pandemic. It reopened last week.

For now, the building is open from 8 to 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to serve “people that need medical equipment,” Post 237 Commander Mark Foley said June 3 by phone.

“It’ll probably be July 7 before bingo reopens,” Foley estimated.

VFW Service Information Officer Jim Rippy said Monday by phone that he planned to be at the building from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays, starting June 18, to assist veterans with receiving disability-related benefits. Rippy said he would request that Post 4398 Commander Larry Brune open the facility for him.

Rippy, who also is an American Legion member and a member of Disabled American Veterans, has met with applicants at his residence while the building has been closed.
