Thompson works to restore retired teachers benefits

Missouri teachers, along with some police officers and firefighters, face reduced incomes during their retirement years due to current federal guidelines, which jeopardizes their quality of life. Due to this, Missouri State Representative Terry Thompson is advocating for federal legislation to address this issue and has assisted thousands of Missouri teachers in joining the effort. Thompson recently traveled to Washington, D.C., where he met with Congressman Jason Smith (R) and others regarding HR-82, also known as the Social Security Fairness Act, which would repeal the two pertinent federal provisions. He worked with the Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA), which gathered more than 2,800 letters from Missouri teachers sharing their personal stories about how those provisions are impacting or will impact their lives.
