Rotary raffle fuels community growth
The 2024 Richmond Rotary Reverse Raffle generated enough community support to fund 30 project requests from local nonprofits, schools and service groups, with awards ranging from scholarship programs to health equipment, field improvements and more.
“What we have found over recent years is it is good for all of you to see each other and say, ‘Oh, that’s who that is. Oh, that’s that project,’” said Rob Swafford, a longtime Rotarian who helped launch the annual fundraiser in 2006. “It’s good to see the good community things going on in our local little area.”
Swafford, who joined the club in 1993, welcomed recipients to a grant distribution event held at Richmond City Hall’s gym.
“The purpose of tonight is for us to distribute money to organizations that you represent,” said Swafford. “We’ve had around 30 applicants and I think nearly all applicants, maybe not 100%, but nearly all have received some sort of funding tonight.”
