With the goal of making better use of property, the Ray County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) have installed a bus stop on the east side of the property. Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said he hopes to enhance the lives of inmates, released inmates and the community of Henrietta, where the Ray County Jail is located. A “mental health village” was recently completed by RCSO and Childers said the bus stop is another step in the right direction. “It is our job as a correctional facility to house criminals,” the sheriff said. “But it is also our job to prepare those inmates to be released back into society again. We want to do our best to get them ready and make sure they have the tools they need.” The bus stop vision is to have a waiting area with vending machines nearby for inmates to make use of upon their release, the sheriff said, noting the money for the project will come from a state-monitored account where monies spent in the commissary by inmates is deposited.
