Overcoming obstacles, homesteading event triumphs

Locals recently received a unique opportunity to learn how to live more sustainably. The First Annual Homesteading in Ray County Regional Swap, Meet and Convention took over Eagleton Senior Center this past weekend. The new event was hosted by farm owner and minister Casey Holman, who said he hosted the event to teach residents how to learn to live off-grid and increase knowledge of sustainable living and traditional skills. The event included guest speakers, a lard-making demonstration, a bread demonstration, an old-fashioned weaving loom demonstration and attendees took tours of the museum. “This was the first event in Ray County of many more to come,” Holman said. “It was a success and was a good baseline for improvement and expansion in future years.
