Orrick R-XI School District seeks two propositions

The Orrick R-XI School District will have two propositions on the April 2 ballot — “Proposition Bearcats” and “Proposition Orrick Schools.” Proposition Bearcats is a tax levy increase — just shy of 26% — from $3.8892, increased to $4.8892. Meanwhile, Proposition Orrick Schools describes a $2 million no-tax-increase bond issue. Both are necessary, according to Orrick R-XI School District Superintendent Scott Guilkey, who is in favor of the tax increase and bond issue. If these were to pass on April 2, Guilkey said the school district’s total levy would increase. “Our current debt service levy of $1.0103 is to cover obligated debts currently extended through 2034. The no-taxincrease bond issue would take on an additional $2 million of debt but would do so without increasing the debt service levy,” said Guilkey.
