Koons shares ag journalism interests with local students

The agricultural journalism industry is rapidly growing and journalists are making their way to high schools to encourage students to follow in this career. Cami Koons, the agriculture journalist for Flatland KC, joined the Richmond High School agriculture communications class. Cami informed the students about what struck her interest in journalism, but also how she managed to become involved in the agriculture aspect when she had no relation to agriculture beforehand. She elaborated on what made her want to pursue agricultural journalism. “My mom was an English teacher, so I knew I wanted to do something with writing, but I was never involved in FFA or agriculture - I wish I was - but in high school, it was not something that I was interested in,” said Koons. She continued to say she gets all her news stories from outside of the suburban Kansas City area that is related to agriculture.
