HSRC acquires new home
The Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) recently purchased a building which will become the future home and permanent location of the shelter, located at 104 N. McCart Street in Richmond.
“We have a lot of work to do before moving,” said HSRC President Atalie Blackwell. “This is not a small project; we are transforming a blank space into a shelter we have only been able to dream about. A long list of projects needs to be completed, including electrical and ventilation systems, moving and adding plumbing for kennel drains and sinks, ductwork, building kennels, and interior walls, to name a few.
A location was needed as the current shelter, 200 S. College Street, is a county- owned building built in 1975 which desperately needs repair. The leaking roof has made a room in the shelter unusable and caused electrical damage.
“We’ve had electrical issues due to the roof,” said Blackwell. “So that’s scary. We have had an electrician come in; it turns out it’s a Federal Pacific panel, a big…
