Graduation seems surreal to Happy, other RHS seniors
Around 7:15 p.m. on a recent Friday at Spartan Stadium, Hayden Happy was officially declared a Richmond High School (RHS) graduate.
A few minutes after being recognized as such, however, Happy acknowledged it hadn’t sunk in that he had finished high school.
“We were all sitting there in the stands (and) everything. We were like, ‘This is not real,’” he said. “And that’s how I still feel – this is not real. It’s kind of crazy.”
Happy was among 86 students who participated in the May 10 graduation ceremony. Like other commencement exercises, it included speakers. One of them was Principal Brandon Quick, who encouraged the graduates to “keep making decisions that lead you to success and happiness.”
“I want you to know that those who helped you get to this point couldn’t be more happy for you than they are right now,” Quick said. “Today, bask in the glory you have earned, but be humble and ready to take on the next challenge.”
