Football camp teaches life lessons

With the goal of teaching there is more to life than football, two Richmond High School alumni hosted a football camp fundraiser. Keyshaun Elliott, a New Mexico State University linebacker, and Layne Cavanah, a William Jewell College wide receiver, wanted to raise money for nine-year-old Presley Minnick, who was diagnosed with chondroblastic osteosarcoma, a rare cancer. The large tumor was found during a dentist appointment in April and after doctor’s visits, results showed the tumor had already affected her sinuses, nose, eye and cheek. With a $20 entry fee, the camp raised $1,300 for the Minnicks, said Cavanah. “Presley’s mother, Erin Minnick, has always been a big supporter of Keyshaun and me so we knew we had to do something to raise money for them. Everyone really appreciated it and the most fun was working with all of the kids,” said Layne.
