ES woman arrested after failing court-ordered drug test

An Excelsior Springs woman who tested positive for drugs was taken into custody during a court-ordered urinalysis at a scheduled hearing in her ongoing felony sex abuse case. Desiree A. Alexander, 37, faces nine felony charges and one misdemeanor from a 2022 case, including three counts of first-degree rape or attempted rape, two counts of abuse or neglect of a child, one count each of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy, incest, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree attempted sexual abuse, as well as one count of first-degree sexual misconduct. Alexander appeared this week in Ray County Circuit Court before Judge J. Bartley Spear Jr. of the 43rd Judicial Circuit Court for a scheduled plea or trial setting hearing. Spear was assigned to the case after a request for change of judge was granted. During that appearance, the court ordered her to submit to a urinalysis to screen for drug use.
