Commission addresses opioid funding
The Ray County Commission recently addressed several ongoing matters, including opioid settlement fund planning and technology services.
Commissioners discussed the remaining $173,000 in opioid settlement funds available for use. Of the initial $194,729.19 in funds received, commissioners purchased a TruNarc machine and provide counseling services.
Moving forward, their hope is to expand treatment and prevention efforts through partnerships with outside agencies.
Presiding Commissioner Shelia Tracy mentioned neighboring Clay County is currently working with Beacon Mental Health to provide jail counseling, transportation, housing and school education programs.
“It seems like that makes sense for us, too,” she said.
Commissioners plan to meet with Beacon Mental Health to explore similar options. The opioid settlement funds will be distributed through 2038.
“If we don’t get a program going soon, the money might be gone,” stated Tracy.
