After three years in office and nearly one year following the start of the Work Inmate Program, former Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers is under criminal investigation and is on paid administrative leave. This comes at the hands of Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey via petition of quo warranto. On March 7, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) and Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) showed up at the Ray County Jail (RCJ) – allegedly searching for contraband in the jail. “The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control received a request for a criminal investigation of the Ray County Sheriff by the Missouri Attorney General,” said Public Information and Education Division Assistant Director Lieutenant Eric Brown of MSHP. RCJ inmates were escorted onto a white bus while a search of the jail was conducted. Ray County Commissioners have no comments at this time.
