Whose ball is it?

SPARTAN KEYSHAUN ELLIOTT, No. 5, fights for a rebound with Ewing Marion Kauffman’s Brendon Hurd during the Richmond Winter Classic.

RICHMOND – The Spartans wanted to do something special when they faced Ewing Marion Kauffman High School on Feb. 1 in varsity boys basketball.

That night, the Spartans hosted the Blue Knights in the Richmond Winter Classic title game. They wanted to win the inaugural version of their own tournament, Richmond coach Kevin Jermain and senior Dionte Marquez agreed.

“We walked about that before the game,” Jermain said. “We said … ‘Hopefully, it’s a long tradition, but there’s only going to be one first year – and it’d be nice to start off on the positive side.’”

Richmond started off on the positive side, winning 67-58.
