The Richmond Spartans continued their late-season push Monday by knocking off top-seeded Smithville on the Warriors home field, 13-10, in the District 15 semifinals.

Richmond exploded for a 10-run top of the second inning and then held off the state’s No. 6-ranked Class 4 team to advance to the district championship game for the first time since a 4-2 loss to Carrollton to end the 2014 campaign.

The Spartans collected 12 hits, but only two of those came in the final three innings. However, Richmond was helped by drawing eight walks and two hit batters off five Smithville pitchers.

The complete story is in the Friday, May 18, 2018 Richmond News.
