Sharp preps, Hyder reflects after state
State-qualifying wrestler Ryan Sharp is already thinking about next season.
As the Richmond News recently reported, Sharp placed fourth in the 144-pound division at this year’s Class 2 state boys high school tournament. During a March 5 interview, the Richmond freshman said he planned to begin training for 2026-27 this month, starting by working out with Victory Wrestling, a club team based in Liberty. He learned about the club as a youth wrestler, he said.
“I’d been wrestling for a while and they always had the top kids and were placing highest at all the tournaments as a team,” Sharp said.
Richmond boys coach Cody Hogan appreciates Sharp’s approach.
“You want to go down to the state tournament and you want to be successful in high school, you’ve got to train yearround,” Hogan said. “Of course, you’ve got kids that do other sports and we consider that training as well. Sitting at home, eating candy, watching TV and playing video games doesn’t cut it.”
