KANSAS CITY  – The Kansas City Royals made a move to shore up their infield before 2019 closed.

On Dec. 27, the ballclub signed free agent Maikel Franco. The third baseman comes to Kansas City from Philadelphia, where he made his major-league debut in 2014 and started in 100-plus games the past four seasons.
