RICHMOND – A seesaw playoff battle marked by five first-half lead swaps that left the Spartans holding a scanty 24-21 lead against Chillicothe turned into a fourth-quarter romp, as Richmond’s offense cranked out the most team points in three years to capture a 62-35 win. Richmond scored 38 second-half points to become one of 16 teams still standing in the Class 3 state playoffs. Junior wide receiver Layne Cavanah posted several highlights that included hauling in three TD passes from junior quarterback Keshaun Elliott, who broke Richmond’s single-season and lifetime TD records. A consistent player, Cavanah could not account for his breakout night Nov. 6 against the visiting Hornets. “It just happened,” he said moments after the football game.
