RICHMOND – A 19-5 run helped the Richmond varsity boys basketball team start 2020 with a 77-38 win over Carrollton.

Leading 18-17, the Spartans staged their run during the second quarter of the Jan. 3 Missouri River Valley Conference East Division meeting and went on to lead 44-26 at halftime. They then outscored the visiting Trojans 33-12 the second half.

Sophomore Spencer Wolf dropped in nine three-point buckets to pace Richmond with 27 points. Wolf was the only Spartan in double figures.

Junior guard Gage Fitzpatrick led Carrollton with 13 points, making him the lone Trojan in double figures.

The Spartans followed up that victory Wednesday night by cruising to a 71-37 non-conference road win over Kingsville.

By opening 2020 with back-to-back wins, the Spartans are 8-2 with a four-game winning streak entering the Lawson Invitational Basketball Tournament. The top-seeded Spartans open the eight-team tournament Jan. 13 against eighth-seeded North Platte.
