Richmond boys begin latest title chase with young squad
In a few months, Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Jermain and his Spartans might have the chance to avenge the loss that ended their 2022-23 season.
Recently, the Missouri State High School Activities Association released its district assignments for boys and girls basketball. Like last season, Richmond’s boys and girls programs are in Class 4 District 15. And like last season, the tournament field for that district includes Odessa – the school that ended Richmond’s bid for a fourth straight district boys title with a buzzer-beating three-point bucket by Jackson Murry.
Jermain sees the loss to Odessa as providing some fuel for the program.
“I talk a lot about how losing hurts more than winning feels good; and losing the way we lost – to a team that … a lot of our guys felt like we should’ve won, nine times out of 10 – is going to hurt for a while,” he said following a Nov. 14 preseason jamboree at Lawson.
