RHS wins, tumbles by double digits in districts

Monday wasn’t Richmond’s day in varsity baseball, Spartans coach Zach Mc-Gill said. Two days after romping to a no-hit victory in 2½ innings over Kansas City Central, the Spartans got bounced 10-0 in 4½ innings by Excelsior Springs Monday afternoon in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament semifinals at Excelsior Springs. “We just didn’t have a good day,” McGill said. The loss ended Richmond’s season at 8-15. The eight victories were the most since 2023, when the Spartans finished 11-13. “They’ve come a long way in three years,” said McGill, who finished his third season as coach. “I know the record doesn’t show it, but life lessons and being good people and those sorts of things, they’ve evolved on that front. I couldn’t be more proud of them.” Sparked by Spence Gibbs’ leadoff triple, Excelsior Springs took control with a four-run first.
