RHS seniors win final home matches
Brady Hyder, Georgan Happy and Madix Hutchings have left their home gym on a winning note.
On Feb. 7 in the Richmond Invitational, the three seniors each won the final match they’ll wrestle in Richmond High School. In doing so, they helped the Spartans take second in the team standings with 140.5 points – nine points ahead of third-place Excelsior Springs. Father Tolton Regional Catholic, a Columbia-based private school, won the title with 179 points.
For his farewell, Hyder pinned Kirksville’s Jason Schutter in the second period for the 126-pound division title.
“I knew, on my feet, I had the kid beat,” Hyder said. “So my plan was just to get a whole bunch of shots in, but stick to the outside. I knew he was a bit stronger than me, so I had to be careful with any locks he got – or any scrambles.”
Overall, Hyder wrestled well, Richmond boys coach Cody Hogan said.
