RICHMOND – Senior Wyatt Marshall had at least two reasons to enjoy the night of Feb. 5. One, Marshall helped Richmond cruise to a 67-39 win over visiting Holden in varsity boys basketball (see page 15). The other was, he was crowned mat court king during halftime of the Spartans’ victory. Fellow senior Sophia Farnan, whose extracurricular activities have included varsity volleyball, was crowned queen. Two of Marshall’s senior teammates, Wyatt Covey and Jacob Knutter, were king candidates. Other queen candidates were Hannah Norris, a 2020 Class 1 state qualifier in girls golf; and Olivia Maulsby. Dionte Marquez and Alissa Pritchett, the 2020 king and queen, crowned their respective successors. During his time at Richmond, Marquez led the Spartans to their first district boys basketball title in almost 50 years. He also was a state-qualifying jumper in track and field.
