HIGGINSVILE – The meeting between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV has prompted a former Richmond coach to reflect on his association with a Richmond High School graduate – who later played for San Francisco.

Several years before working at Richmond, Bob Gibson quarterbacked for Northeast Missouri State College, renamed Northeast Missouri State University while he was there, now known as Truman State University. While at the Kirksville-based school, Gibson was teammates with Lenvil Elliott, a 1969 Richmond graduate who went on to play in the NFL – first for the Cincinnati Bengals, then for San Francisco.
