THE WAIT IS OVER Richmond has its second top-four team finish at state in boys track. Tallying 40 points, the Spartans placed second at this year’s Class 3 state competition, held May 22-23 in Jefferson City. According to Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) records, the last time the Richmond boys posted a top-four finish was 1962, when they took third at the Class B state meet. At state, the Spartans set school records again in the boys 800- and 400-meter relays. Running in the preliminaries for the 800 relay, the team of Malikiah Tharp, Brice Dome, Treyton Alexander and Cyrus Jackson broke the record in that event with their time of 1 minute, 27.67 seconds. The foursome had set the old record, 1:28.67, May 9 at districts. Tharp, Dome, Alexander and Cyrus, who had the fastest preliminary time, broke the school record again in the finals with their second-place time of 1:26.88.
