Down to their last nine outs and trailing in the first round of the Class 4, District 15 baseball tournament at Smithville Saturday, it appeared to be an uphill battle for the Richmond Spartans. The Spartans, the No. 5 seed, trailed fourth seeded Van Horn 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning.

However, the Richmond bats came to life and put five runs on the board and then held off a seventh-inning rally by the Falcons for a 6-5 victory and a date with top-seeded Smithville (Monday).

The complete story is in the Tuesday, May 15, 2018 Richmond News.
