Persell, staff evaluate Spartans with Red and White Game
RICHMOND – The Spartans had to wait a few days to stage their Red and White Game.
Originally, the annual 11-man football scrimmage was set for Aug. 15 at Spartan Stadium. But for eligibility reasons, it was rescheduled for Monday afternoon, Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell said.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association requires that student-athletes attend five practices before they can participate in live hitting. With “about six or seven kids that had missed one day of practice,” the Spartans opted to scrimmage Monday so they could “evaluate pretty much the whole team,” Persell said.
Persell’s overall evaluation of the Spartans was, they have much work to do before Aug. 28, when they host Lathrop, a 2019 Class 2 state semifinalist and the 2018 Class 2 state runner-up.
“We’re excited about the way we played at times, but we certainly have a lot to clean up and a lot to evaluate on film,” he said.
