New Richmond AD entering familiar territory

By Shawn Roney/For The Richmond News

To Justin Remington, the meet-and-greet reception held last Friday at Richmond High School to introduce him as Richmond’s athletic director might’ve felt more like a homecoming reception.

A product of Frontenac (Kan.) High School and nearby Pittsburg State University, Remington has worked in education at schools in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa. Now completing his third year as athletic director at Clinton (Iowa) High School, Remington recently accepted the athletic director position at Richmond in part because he was “ready to get back home,” he said.

“My family’s all down here – my parents, my siblings, everybody,” Remington stated.

In addition, Remington said he’s “pretty familiar with Richmond” and its governing conference, the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC). Richmond has been part of the conference since its inception in 1928, when it was called the Big Five.

At least some of Remington’s familiarity with Richmond and the MRVC comes from a three-year stint as athletic director at Holden, an MRVC-affiliated school since 2007. The MRVC is “a good conference,” Remington said.

The complete version of this story appears in the Tuesday, May 22, edition of The Richmond News.
