Millville 4-Hers nab shooting sports honors
Dantin McBee has a streak going at the Ray County Fair.
McBee, a member of the Millville 4-H Club, received the Overall Best in Show Award for shooting sports July 13 at the county fairgrounds in Richmond. It was his third straight year to win a Best in Show Award, he said.
This year’s honor held special meaning for McBee. “I just shot archery this year,” said McBee, who’ll start high school this fall at Excelsior Springs. “I did not shoot trap or anything else so I could focus on archery a little bit more this year. … It’s really cool that I got best in show for just doing archery this year.”
Competing in the 14-18 age group, McBee received the award after scoring a 294 out of 300. McBee’s score included nine bull’s-eyes – also called “X’s.”
A key to getting a near-perfect score is making sure “everything is correct” when shooting, according to McBee.
“It’s not so much how well you can make a shot,” he said. “It’s more (a matter) of how consistent can you make that shot be over…
