Richmond tennis coach Julie Baker got one doubles team past district competition Saturday and into sectional play on Monday. Although the rest of the Spartan tennis team saw its season end in district, Baker was proud of the effort.

The doubles team of Seth McGraw and Tyler Boss drew the No. 3 seed in districts at Excelsior Springs Saturday, and after a runner-up finish there, advanced to Monday’s sectional in St. Joseph. Boss and McGraw lost in the opening match of sectionals to Peter Kempf and Chance Hermelink of Maryville in straight sets, but Baker said her duo played better than the final 1-6, 2-6 score would indicate.
