Dionte Marquez felt that he had “an average day” Saturday at Richmond High School in Class 3, District 8 track and field competition – at least where his long jump performance was concerned.

That “average day,” however, was good enough for him to win the event.

The Richmond sophomore jumped 19 feet, 9 inches to become the district champion. By winning the long jump, Marquez advanced to this Saturday’s Class 3, Sectional 4 meet at Odessa.

“I definitely feel like I can do better,” Marquez said. “And I want to do a lot better.”
