ODESSA – When it comes to running the girls 300-meter low hurdles, looks can be deceiving.

“It looks short,” Hardin-Central junior hurdler Carly Thacker said. “And then you get to about the 200 mark and you don’t know if you’re going to make it.”

Thacker made it through the 300 low hurdles when she ran them May 4 at the Class 1 District 7 track and field competition at Odessa High School. And she did so in a way that allowed her to run the event again Saturday at the Sectional 4 meet at Lathrop. Ditto her teammate, sophomore Gracie Gibson.

Thacker won the race in 48.13 seconds. Gibson finished second in 48.74. The top four finishers in each event advanced.
