RICHMOND – Sarah Farnan* had no grand plan of what she would say when it was her turn to speak during the Richmond High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

She had no grand plan to get emotional when she spoke either, she admitted afterward.

Speaking near the end of the June 8 gala in the high school commons area, Farnan was part of the 2001 girls golf team that was inducted. Late in her speech, as she was thanking individuals and organizations, she teared up, particularly while thanking her parents.

“They didn’t know a lick about golf, but they were always there to learn and to support me,” Farnan said.

Farnan got emotional when thanking her teammates, too.

“It was a wild and fun ride,” she said.

Being inducted with her fellow Spartans was “definitely an honor,” Farnan said.
