Spartan bats awaken against Knob Noster in 13-5 win
By Russ Green/Sports Editor
The Richmond Spartans have been struggling at the plate this season, but put all that behind them Friday afternoon at Southview Park. The Spartans erupted for a season-high 13 runs in a 13-5 MRVC East victory over visiting Knob Noster.
Richmond, who had lost the earlier meeting on the Panthers home field by a 2-1 final, broke the game open in the bottom of the third as 15 batters came to the plate in a nine-run explosion that turned a 4-1 Spartan lead into a rout.
Starting pitcher Clayton Coldwell did his job on the mound in a complete-game effort. The junior hurler surrendered 10 hits and a pair of walks while striking out four.
