HARDIN-CENTRAL guard Mason Freece goes to the hoop during a June 20 shootout game.

ORRICK – Hardin-Central dove headfirst into offseason boys basketball training.

On June 20, the Bulldogs played three games in a shootout, facing Stewartsville, Santa Fe and Orrick, with no practices before making the trek from Hardin to Orrick, coach Kirk Thacker said.

“We’re completely rusty because we haven’t even had a camp,” Thacker said.

Hardin-Central started by almost pulling off a comeback win against Stewartsville. Trailing 27-14, the Bulldogs staged a second-half run. But the Cardinals held on, edging the Bulldogs 33-29.
