Football, COVID-19 put Persell’s baseball coaching duties on hold

RICHMOND – Nick Persell has a second head coaching assignment at Richmond High School. For several months, however, his second job is taking a backseat to his first one. And the whims of the coronavirus pandemic. In June, the Richmond Board of Education approved hiring Persell to succeed Brandon Quick as the head varsity baseball coach. Persell is a former player of Quick’s and one of Quick’s assistant coaches from 2015 to 2019. Having been a player and then an assistant to Quick, who is the new assistant principal at Richmond High, “is kind of a cool thing,” Persell said July 27. He said he is confident his association with Quick has helped prepare him for the job. “He’s been at it a long time – and somebody with that much experience, that certainly pays off a lot when you’ve worked for them for a few years,” Persell said.
