Dennis, Spartan foursome, start prepping for girls golf season

RICHMOND – Although the turnout for the first week of girls golf practices was a mixed blessing, coach Murray Dennis and his Spartans were happy with how the practices went overall. “They’ve hit some nice shots,” Dennis said after the team’s Aug. 14 practice at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. “They’ve been attentive. They’re coachable, which is key. … You can be a really good athlete, but if you’re not coachable, you’re not going to fit in that team scheme.” Four Spartans practiced last week: senior Hannah Norris, junior Tori Bowman, and underclassmen Zalie Gregory and Kennedy Wrisinger. Gregory, encouraged to take up golf by Sunrise Elementary Principal Piper Peterson, started playing last week, Dennis said. “She’s done a great job (of) picking it up,” he said. “And she seems eager to learn.” “We all like helping her out, little by little,” Bowman said. “And I think she’ll really like it.” Dennis could provide more personalized instruction to Gregory, Bowman and the rest of the…
