CENTERVIEW – Through the first quarter, Orrick was in position to knock off undefeated Crest Ridge.

Then, there was the second quarter.

Orrick trailed 10-9 after one quarter of Tuesday’s I-70 Conference varsity boys basketball meeting. But then, Crest Ridge ripped off a 20-3 second quarter and went on to outscore Orrick 27-13 the second half to hand the Bearcats a 57-25 road loss.

Dylan Comstock was the lone Bearcat in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Orrick’s other scorers were Ethan Wilson with eight points; Gabe McAfee and Devin Opoka with three apiece; and Blake Buchanan, who contributed a second-quarter free throw.

Cole Schmidli dropped in 19 points to pace the Cougars (20-0 overall, 4-0 conference). Will Taylor added 13.

The Bearcats (11-9, 1-2), who have dropped three of their last four, look to get back in the winning column Friday, when they host Lone Jack in conference play.
