ORRICK – The Bearcats got a confidence boost June 20 when they hosted a varsity boys basketball shootout.

One of Orrick’s five opponents was a familiar foe from the Bearcats’ I-70 Conference schedule: St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia, a Class 3 school that defeated Richmond for the District 14 title and finished fourth in the state for the 2018-’19 season. Sparked by a 9-2 opening run, the Bearcats led by as many as nine late in the first half and were up 19-11 at halftime.

Orrick, a Class 1 school, held on for a 30-26 win. A last-second free throw helped seal the deal.
