B-ballers, golfer give tennis a try
Many Richmond sports fans are used to seeing Adilyn Swope on basketball courts.
In a few months, they might have opportunities to see her on tennis courts, too.
Swope, a soon-to-be junior, was among the girls who participated in a series of offseason high school morning training sessions at Maurice Roberts Park, overseen by Richmond girls and boys tennis coach Zachary Baldauf.
“I just kind of thought it’d be fun,” Swope said June 19. “I came to a few of the boys matches, just because I knew someone that played, and I just thought it looked fun. I thought it’d be something new to try.”
Swope, who also participates in track and field, is among a handful of Spartans linked to other sports who’ve given tennis a try during the summer break. Others include Brylee Castilleja, also a basketball player and track and field participant; and Carsyn Teat, who has played prep golf.
“I’ve done golf for the last three years and I wanted to try something new,” Teat said.
