SHAWN PEARON gets some training reps carrying the football.

NORBORNE – Kirk Thacker is getting a different Father’s Day present this year than most dads.

This Sunday, in his role as the Norborne Hardin-Central varsity football coach, Thacker will accompany the Aggies to Kearney, Nebraska. Once there, the players will scrimmage against other 8-man programs through June 18. The scrimmages will take place at the Kearney satellite campus of the University of Nebraska.

Thacker said 14 Aggies will make the trip.

“I don’t have one boy; I’ve got 14 boys all of a sudden. I’m not sure I want all of them either,” he cracked with a chuckle during Monday.

Those 14 boys include about six freshmen, Thacker said.

“They will get … thrown in the deep end and taught how to swim,” he said. “So it’ll be trial by fire for some of them. But they’ll be all right. That’s how you learn.”
