Even when unpopular, doing the right thing remains right

Should people mask up for just a bit longer to reduce the spread of COVID-19? Some of this area’s social influencers, with people sick and dying along the way, have said masks do not help prevent the virus. Some made masks “the enemy,” saying they could cause delays in child development and other ailments. A few have stood passionately against schools requiring masks. A voice or two even suggested that, if a child has been in contact with an infected person, then that child still should be allowed in school, though perhaps that child should wear a mask and sit in a corner of a classroom. They did not go so far as to suggest the child in the corner should wear a “dunce hat,” too. Call that enlightened tolerance. People holding anti-mask views include some Richmond School District Board of Education members, teachers, parents and students. Some expressed contempt for masks during the September board meeting.
