Shirley Dover

1944 – 2023 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Shirley Mae Dover, at the age of 78 years on March 9, 2023. Shirley was born on May 9, 1944, in Norborne to Walter Thoeni and Ruth (Stark) Thoeni and was the youngest of eight children. Shirley will be forever cherished by her husband, Paul Dover, who was blessed to share 58 years of marriage with her. She will be dearly missed by her children: Chris (John) Adams, Dan Dover, Dave (Deborah) Dover and Cindy (Cordale) Williams; grandchildren, Emma Adams, Kayla Adams, Owen Adams, Ava Dover, Lyla Dover and Atieus Williams; siblings, Kent (Sue) Thoeni, Rose McGrath, Jean Faver and Sharon (Werner) Moentmann.

Shirley was a 1962 graduate of Norborne High School and 1964 graduate of the University of Central Missouri with a degree in secretarial science. After college, Shirley initially applied her degree by working as an executive secretary at Western Auto in Kansas City.

Following a tragic accident that placed her in a coma for four months and then left her permanently disabled, Shirley left the workforce to dedicate the rest of her years to raising a family near Roads.

Shirley made an impact on everyone who knew her with her unwavering strength and passion for life. She lit up every room she entered with her beautiful smile and positive attitude.

Shirley loved to play pitch, checkers and would never turn down ice cream or a chance to shoot the moon. She was an inspiration to her children and instilled in them a belief that anything is possible. To say that her family and friends will miss her dearly is an understatement.

An informal celebration of life event was held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Rupe Community Center in Carrollton.
