Norma Fay Derstler, 84, of Richmond, died Friday, October 02, 2020, at Liberty Hospital.

Norma was born on June 6, 1936, in Orrick, the daughter of Charles Hobart and Pebble (O’Dell) Hannsz. She was united in marriage to Donald Duane Derstler of Richmond on May 18, 1956; he preceded her in death on April 17, 2001.

Survivors include: son, Darrell (Terri) Derstler; two daughters: Susanne (Mike) Martin and Karen (Johny) Teegarden; 10 grandchildren: Lance Derstler, Adam (Amy) Hall, Anita Hall, Misty Devall, Micaela (Eric) Griffin, Bryar Martin, Harmony (Jeff) Noah, Daniel (Lauren) O’Dell, Chris O’Dell, Jonathan (Sarah) Teegarden and Andrew Teegarden; 20 great grandchildren: Kail Derstler, Tara Derstler, Paige (Nathan) Ritchie, Caleb Hall, Ethan Hall, Kane Robert, Keyshaun Elliott, Rhian Knight, Lynnox Knight, Eli Foland, Zoe O’Dell, Max O’Dell, Paige Miller, Awesome O’Dell, Christopher James O’Dell, Jr., Payton Teegarden, Talyn Teegarden, Gunner Teegarden, Gracie Teegarden and Mia Teegarden; four great great-grandchildren: Braxton Hall, Violet Hall, Gracelyn Robert and Makenzie Ritchie; brother, Charles (Linda) Hannsz and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Barbara Jean Halterman.

Norma graduated from Orrick High School in 1954 and then attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar for one year. She transferred to Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg and received her Associate’s Arts degree. After she and Donald were married, they moved to the farm north of town and remained there until her death. Norma worked with her husband at Derstler Lumber Company for 40 years and she continued working after his death. They enjoyed working, traveling and being together. After Donald’s death, she ran the farms, rental properties, and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, sewing, quilting, cooking and music. Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond for 60 years. Through the years she was a Sunday School Departmental Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, kitchen helper, one of the organists and pianists and served on several committees of the church. She served as Clerk of the Heartland Baptist Association for a few years. She was a member of the Ray County Historical Society and served on the board for two years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at the church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Richmond.
