Maurice Gayle Smith of Richmond passed away on Nov. 2 at Liberty Hospital.

He was born July 7, 1938, in Camden to Charles Smith and Ina (Hedrick) Smith.

Maurice married Shirley Peters on Feb 6, 1965. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, David, of Richmond; one daughter, Janette (Doug) Sedgwick of Springfield; mother-in-law, Mary Peters, 98, of Polo; two grandsons, Dylan (Bailey) Smith of Richmond and Christian Sedgwick of Springfield; a grand-daughter, Katelyn Sedgwick of Springfield; and a greatgranddaughter, Emma Smith, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Dorris Smith.

Maurice graduated in 1956 from Richmond High School.

He attended college at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. When he was in the Army, he was a medical specialist in a sharpshooter rifle, infantry division. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo in 1992 after 30 years with the company.

Maurice liked being with family and friends and always looked forward to his class reunions. He liked attending gospel concerts of various groups in the area.

He was a charter member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond and enjoyed being part of the music there.

A private family service will be held at a future date.
