Mary Roma Lee “Shorty” Johnson, 81, Ludlow, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Liberty Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Roma was born July 26, 1937, in Bogard, the daughter of John William and Mary Ellen (Underwood) Horn.

Roma’s life revolved around all of her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, canning, music, dancing and gardening. Mary loved her Lord, Jesus, and was baptized at the Wolcott Kansas Baptist Church in her youth. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.

Survivors include: four sons, Joseph Anderson of Dawn, Timothy Anderson of Holden, Richard “Rocky” Johnson Jr. of Hamilton and Daniel Walker of Ludlow; two daughters, Robin (Steve) Bolan of Lawson and Rachelle “Shelly” (Kevin) Nelson of Gladstone; 24 grandchildren, Jeremey Anderson, Joey Anderson, Stacie (Derrick) Seabaugh, Samantha (Chris) Mangiaracina, Sara Mitchell, Andrea Bradley, Brandon (Katelyn) Bradley, Lakota Johnson, Beth Ann Johnson, Lindsey Bolan, Jacob (Lindsey) Bolan, Benjamin (Kelli) Bolan, Matthew (Melissa) Bolan, Stephanie (Gabe) Bickel, Sarah Beth (Chris) Miller, Jessica Bishop, Nicole Bishop, Shaun Nelson, Shalan (Michael) Willett, Jessica Nelson, Donna Nelson, Sherri Anderson, Blake Pace and Spencer Watkins; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Anderson of Ludlow.

Roma was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joyce Marie Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Jasmine Anderson, Faith Anderson, Jack Bolan and Landon Willett; three brothers, Bill Horn, John Horn Jr. and Johnny “Red” Horn; and her four sisters, Bertha Montgomery, Willow Lloyd, Helen Young and Juanita Good.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association or Camp Hickory Hill Diabetic Children’s Camp. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. – P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Online condolences may be left at
