Marilyn Odell, 91, of Slater, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at Glasgow Gardens in Glasgow, with her children by her side.

Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Henrietta, she was the daughter of James E. and Irene Keel Dailey. On June 22, 1947 in Richmond, she married Marvin E. Odell. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2005.

Mrs. Odell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Slater. She was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School. She and her husband owned and operated Odell’s Restaurant and Fox Den in Slater from 1962 until their retirement in 1996. Following her retirement, she worked at Generations in Marshall for 10 years. She also worked at ConAgra Frozen Foods in Marshall and the Grapevine Restaurant in Slater. She was known as a gracious and charming hostess.

She is survived by a son, Gene Odell of Shawnee, Kansas; two daughters, Connie Holt and her husband Gene of Slater, and Rita Carpenter of Safford, Arizona; five granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; two greatgranddaughters; five step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Dean Dailey of Lebanon, Tennessee; a sister, Cheryl Lynn Slobodnik of Kansas City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
