Lester “Turner” Williams, 86, of Higginsville, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia.
Lester was born May 19, 1932, in Excelsior Springs, to Lester B. and Lottie (Cole) Williams. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth McFee of Richmond in 1970; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: one son, Charles (Crystal) Whitteck of Cameron; one daughter, Jeannette Whitteck of Orrick; eight grandchildren: Taylor Vandiver, Taran Vandiver, Cody McMillan, Courtney McMillan, Charlsey Whelchel, Stephanie Boyd, Eric Burton, and Landon Whitteck; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Leslie Vandiver.
Turner was a veteran of the United States Navy.  When he was younger he worked for Steva Stone as a dozer operator and his last job was custodian for the Richmond Elementary School.  He lived most of his life in Richmond.  He enjoyed camping, loved history, and collecting things.  His family was the light of his life, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lester “Turner” Williams Memorial Fund.  They can be mailed or dropped off to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. – P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at a later date by the family in Hickory Grove Cemetery, northeast of Richmond.
