Jeffrey Lee Fanning, 46, of Richmond, died unexpectantly on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at his home.

Jeffrey was born on May 17, 1974, in Richmond, the son of John Everett and Anita L. (Ragland) Fanning. He was reared and educated in Ray County, where he attended grade school in Orrick, then graduated from the Richmond High School. Jeffrey worked in the automotive department at Walmart and Break Time Convenience Store on East Main Street. He was an active member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed serving as Song Leader. He announced Little League football in Richmond for many years. He was a huge fan of World League Wrestling and would help them set up and tear down every time they came to town. Jeffrey loved to watch his nieces, nephews,and friends’ kids in all their activities. He will be loved and missed dearly by all his family and friends.

Survivors include: mother, Anita L. Fanning of Richmond; two brothers, John P. Fanning of Tucson, Arizona, and Timothy E. Fanning of Quemno, Kansas; sister, Tina (Jerry) Penniston of Dockery; three nephews, Jeremy Scott Fanning, Harold (Melanie) Penniston and Joe (Jessica) Penniston; two nieces, Diana (Eric) Barker and Tiffany (Shawn) Handley; several great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Vanessa Thompson and Renee (Steve) Tabor.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Everett Fanning, and sister Alice Roberts.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jeffrey Lee Fanning Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St.-P.O. 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with memorial services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2020, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow services in Richmond Memory Gardens.
